Job Description
Main Duties
1. To acquaint yourself in the handover meetings and from the establishment’s records with the likely needs of the residents and respond accordingly.
2. To encourage residents to maintain their independence by allowing them to undertake such normal, personal daily living activities for which they are individually capable.
3. To act as a key worker for a group of residents, ensuring their individual needs are being met, holistically.
4. To assist in basic home nursing procedures as required.
5. To be involved in the social activities with residents, e.g. Outings, exercising and other simulative activities.
6. To develop and maintain close links with relatives, friends etc.
7. To be aware of the contents of any social work / hospital reports, and NCSC standards and observe the confidentiality of such reports.
8. To exercise responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act as laid down or as amended from time to time.
9. To attend staff meetings and any relevant meetings as may be required.
10. To receive individual supervision from your line manager.
11. Assist in the training and supported of volunteers as delegated.
12. To undertake any other duties reasonably falling within the scope of the post as may be required.
Main Nursing Competency Requirements
The Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Rules Approval Order 1983 Statutory Instrument 1983 No 873, Rule 18 (1).
1. Advise on the promotion of health and the prevention of illness.
2. Recognise situations that may be detrimental to the health and well being of the individual.
3. Carry out those activities involved when conducting the comprehensive assessment of a person’s nursing requirements.
4. Recognise the significance of the observations made and use to develop an initial nursing assessment.
5. Devise a plan of nursing care based on the assessment, with the cooperation of the patient, to the extent that is possible, taking into account the medical prescription.
6. Implement the planned programme of nursing care and where appropriate teach and coordinate other members of the caring team who may be responsible for implementing specific aspects of the nursing care.
7. Review the effectiveness of the nursing care provided, and where appropriate, initiate any action that may be required.
8. Work in a team with other nurses, and with medical and paramedical staff and social workers.
9. Undertake the management of the care of a group of patients over a period of time and organise the appropriate support services.
Qualifications/Skills Required
Basic Objectives of Post
1. To attend to the physical, emotional and social needs of the residents as assessed.
2. To give adequate support and if necessary, total care to the residents, and to maintain standards of personal care and socially acceptable behaviour.
3. To maximise resident’ independence, dignity and choice.
4. Where necessary, assist and encourage the residents to maintain Orthodox Jewish customs and practices.
5. To be trained in and gain hands-on experience to obtain the standards set out in their supervised practice programme as agreed by the NMC to be registered as a nurse in the United Kingdom.
