Job Description
A world leader, this multi-disciplinary consultancy specialises in the provision of planning, design and management services for infrastructure development worldwide.
With interests in transportation, water and property, the company is usually undertaking commissions in over 70 countries at any one time. With a network of more than 60 offices and 3000 employees they are truly global in terms of size and coverage.
Being highly client focused, they are often featured in the press for their unique approach when working with clients from "straight forward" works through to highly technical assignments.
A further unique aspect of the organisation is the collaborative team approach as opposed to internal cost centres. Resources and knowledge are pooled for the good of the job as opposed to costed out for the good of individual departments.
The team in Leeds has around 60 members engaged on various schemes for the EA through their framework partnership and major projects (>£3m) for Yorkshire Water.
Our clients current benefits package includes:
- 24 days holiday (with option to buy / sell up to 6 days per annum)
- BUPA medical cover
- Money purchase pension scheme
- Flexi-working
You will join a small, busy Mechanical team working from offices in Leeds on major schemes for Yorkshire Water. Our clients integrated structure means you will form part of a UK wide team of over 140 staff allowing you to work with a wide knowledge base.
Our client works under YW's 'large schemes framework' and as such you will have the opportunity to add some impressive projects to your CV. Recent schemes have included a £40m re-build and extension to a major Ww treatment plant, a £13m extension to one of the regions key treatment plants and a £10m upgrade to a flood alleviation pumping station.
As the role develops you will have the opportunity to take on ownership of smaller projects. On large schemes you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary design team with your typical duties including:
- Outline and detailed design of mechanical installations (pumping stations, sewage and water treatment plant, flood defences)
- Assistance in production of mechanical GAs, FDSs, tender documents and specifications
- Carrying out feasibility studies
- Asset condition surveys
Project work will primarily be delivered for YW but there are opportunities to work in other sectors including power and nuclear.
Qualifications/Skills Required
This role is going to be most suited to a Graduate Engineer who has gained some recent UK design experience and is now looking for their next career step and a new challenge.
You will need to hold a relevant Mechanical Engineering degree and will have already gained experience of the UK water industry.
You will have good communication skills, a positive outlook on further training and development and the confidence to make an effective contribution to producing design solutions.
You will enjoy working in a team to solve problems and you will have a good technical grounding in mechanical engineering design principles.
