Our client specialises in military communications, battlespace, mission and information management systems for safety and mission critical applications. Our client has been active in the UK since 1962 and now employs over 900 highly skilled staff at four locations throughout the UK.

The Company is the Prime Contractor and Systems Integrator for the BOWMAN, secure digital voice and data communication system for the UK armed forces. In parallel with BOWMAN, the company is taking a leading role in the growing UK market for Digitization and Network Enabled Capability programmes.

Our client is one of the leading European suppliers of integrated avionics and mission systems with products in operation worldwide. It is the second largest supplier of UK avionics equipment for Eurofighter and has vast experience in the design of solutions for the harsh operational environments of both fixed (fast jet) and rotary wing platforms.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMME

The BOWMAN programme will provide a new communications system to the British Armed Forces and enable digitization. BOWMAN is a state of the art tactical communications system, it includes everything from advanced radios to computer terminals and applications, network management, security and logistic capabilities.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Although the BOWMAN programme is still in development, there is a regular influx of change requests being received that require prompt and comprehensive responses in terms of commercial solution, technical solution and price. It is likely that these requests will continue to increase in number and complexity and the BOWMAN programme reaches maturity and is trialled and used by the customer community. Project and Bid Managers are needed to manage existing and future bid requests. The role will require a balanced mix of technical competence, commercial awareness plus project management and people management skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Bid Manager of one or more proposals (BCRs) within the BOWMAN contract from identification to contract award and handover to the Project Manager.
Ø Be part of a team of champions for the bidding process source of advice and knowledge on process
Ø Develop and manage positive working relationships with the relevant internal managers and with the customer community.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Essential:

Ø Relevant experience in all aspects of bid and project management within the Defence environment
Ø Able to build personal relationships to maximize response times, quality of information and bid input
Ø Good teambuilding skills
Ø Proactive and responsive approach, open to new ideas
Ø Good communication skills both written and oral
Ø Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline or equivalent
Ø Willing to relocate to Oakdale area
Ø Proven ability to work methodically and effectively within constrained cost and time budgets
Ø Experience within a design and development, production or logistic support environment essential to understanding of the cost drivers and risks.

Desirable:
Ø BOWMAN hardware or software experience
Ø An understanding of project finance and contracting with UK MoD
