Job Description:
Under limited supervision, this position is accountable for performing credit/appraisal, analysis and underwriting/risk management decisions on all loans to ensure compliance with company, investor, and regulatory criteria. Supervise and direct the activities of underwriters within the team. Achieve optimum performance and efficiency consistent with company policy and governmental regulations. The credit officer has company signing authority for all loans in conformance with Product Guide/Agency/Investor Guidelines. Assist the Regional Operations Manager in performing various administrative functions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs credit/appraisal analysis and approve/decline loan applications for all residential loan originations, ensuring compliance with company, regulatory and investor criteria.
Under the guidance of the Regional Operations Manager effectively creates and disseminates underwriting policies, procedures, and criteria to the team through verbal and written communication.
Monitor quality of underwriting skills with the team and office through identification and effective solution of specific problem skills.
Maintains current knowledge of investor underwriting criteria by consulting written guidelines, manuals, attending pertinent seminars/classes, and direct contact with investors underwriting staff.
Ensure timely completion of tasks and coordinate the workflow. Review and track the weekly underwriting report for team members, to ensure company standards and goals are being met.
Responsible for the supervision and training of Underwriters (team members). Responsible for performance planning and reviews, scheduling of vacations, attendance and advising management of corrective action as necessary.
Assist the Regional Operations Manager in investigating and resolving discrepancies revealed in Quality Control Audits and Investor Audits.
Maintain current knowledge of Mortgage Industry programs and policies.
Assist the Regional Operations Manager in performing various administrative functions.
Respond to the most complex inquiries from Loan Officers, customers and team members
Maintain relations with all internal departments and external contacts
Control daily operations routines with the team to ensure appropriate quality customer service and production standards are maintained at all times.
Qualifications/Skills Required
Qualifications:
Knowledge of federal and state mortgage banking regulations
Ability to effectively train branch personnel
Thorough knowledge of packaging and submission of condo/pud/coop approval request to investors
Skills:
Advanced verbal and written communication skills
Extensive experience in mortgage underwriting
Excellent organizational skills
