Job Description

Mechanical Project Manager
One of the UK's leading providers of building services, mechanical, electrical and engineering solutions, they provide a broad range of high quality engineering and contracting services for public sector and private customers in commercial and industrial markets.

Their skills include project management, design, prefabrication and offsite manufacture, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance.

The company serves commercial, defence, education, health, industrial, infrastructure, public building, retail, scientific, sport and leisure markets. They employ over 3,750 staff through a network of offices at over 20 locations, throughout the UK.

The main objective of this Mechanical Project Management vacancy within this national recognised Building Services Contractor is to provide a successful project engineering service from enquiry to order stage of projects, and then from site commencement to practical completion of all contracts. The successful candidate will be appointed to ensure that company practices and standards are maintained by the effective management of a team to achieve this.

They are to contribute to the compilation of the project estimate by preparing estimate documentation for the Contracts Manager's agreement in order to achieve a balance between price & quality which satisfies both the client's and the commercial requirements of the project. They will also have responsibility, in conjunction with their Contracts Manager, to assist in the negotiation and placing of contract orders and to apply the principles of Contract Law to the companies commercial systems.

Once contract tenders have been successful, the Project Manager is required to set-up sites from project commencement to practical completion. This will involve:
- establishing site office & accommodation/staffing requirements/security/documentation.
- on-site quality auditing & preparing quality plans.
- building relationships with main contractor, client & other parties.
- monitoring & maintaining site HSE requirements.
- understanding & reporting on production/cost and planning procedures.
- establishing an effective material stock control & storage system.
- understanding the requirements & actions to be taken to test & commission a project.
- post contract completion i.e. clearing site/archiving/financial & practical review/installed drawings & manuals/secure disposal of confidential information & systems.

Qualifications/Skills Required

To apply for this Mechanical Project Manager role, candidates must have gained a recognised apprenticeship and substantial relevant experience within the private building services industry in a similar role. Ideally, they will be educated to degree standard, although this contractor would consider a candidate with an HNC as a minimum.

Essential work based requirements include a good awareness of estimating packages, commercial awareness including Contract Law knowledge, health and safety management experience, financial and resource management, project planning experience, supplier and sub-contractor management, design awareness and quality control.

Any applicant will also posses good communication skills with both clients and colleagues, analytical problem solving abilities and the ability to organise themselves and others.

The vacancy is based within the mechanical department of this building services contractor in Sheffield.
