The Highways and Bridges Design Team is currently engaged on Design Services Framework commissions for two Local Authorities as well as providing design services for DBFO companies. The team also supports other teams in the UK in delivering highway design for Highways Agency projects as well the NRA in Ireland.

Excellent opportunity to join one of the UKs most progressive engineering consultancies working as a Principal Bridge Engineer.

The main function of your role will be to manage a team of Engineers and Technicians. As a Principal Engineer you will be required to call upon your strong technical knowledge to provide mentoring and guidance to the team helping to further their design competency, thus helping the further development of the team.

You will have a lead role in the preparation of bids for new work and will be expected to play an active part in business development. Other aspects of the role will include ensuring compliance with H&S standards, liaising with clients and other internal teams and carrying out design review and checking.

Qualifications/Skills Required

Applicants for this role must hold a relevant Civil Engineering Degree and will be close to chartership if not chartered already (MICE / MIStructE). It is essential that you have strong design experience and an understanding of a range of materials including steel and pre-stressed concrete.

You must be able to carry out the role of Contract Supervisor under NCE or ICE forms of contract and you will need to have a very good working knowledge of the DMRB. Your previous bridge engineering experience will have included assessment and inspection work and you will be familiar with space frame and finite element analysis software.

It is essential that you have good communication skills, the ability to project manage design schemes and the ambition and enthusiasm to help develop the business and the team in Newcastle.
