Job Description
Purpose of the job:
To work as part of the Departmental Referral & Assessment team providing appropriate social work services to the department's service users and their
families. Duties will include to staff and service the duty desk by participation in the duty rota. To provide an immediate response to incoming referrals through telephone, office and home contact
where appropriate. To assess the appropriateness of requests for help, assistance or intervention. To make assessments of children, young people and families' needs. To identify the focus for
ongoing work and where appropriate undertake short-term intervention with families. To attend and participate in meetings as required by the Team Manager and to accept work allocation. To
prepare for and attend supervision sessions and carry out actions as agreed in each session. To work closely with other agencies (health, education, police, voluntary sector etc.) to ensure families
receive a coordinated response and appropriate services.
The successful candidate will be a fully qualified social worker, holding either a DipSW, CQSW, CSS or BA/MA in social work and with further post qualification training desirable. He/she will have a
minimum of 2 years experience working with young people and a commitment to and an enthusiasm for providing a high quality service for children including those from black or ethnic minority
backgrounds and will have sound experience of crisis intervention and brief intervention. He/she will also be thoroughly familiar with current social work methodologies and with all current relevant legislation.
Appointment is subject to CRB Enhanced Disclosure dated within the last 12 months, GSCC registration and references
