JOB TITLE: Software Development Project Manager

JOB PURPOSE: To manage one or more development projects in terms of delivery to time, quality and cost. Principal focus on planning and delivery.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Group Manager

MAIN TASKS:

? Act as program manager for major control software projects, reporting progress on all milestones through the Group Manager and to senior management.
? Manage one or more development projects in terms of delivery to time, quality and cost
? Ensure that all projects follow appropriate and consistent management processes
? Produce plans in advance of project instigation to meet business demands and communicate to senior management.
? Monitor progress against plan for all projects. Identify problems and apply controls or provide assistance where necessary. Deliver projects to timescale.
? Sign-off and agree timescales for the company
? Provide support for Project Leaders.
? Facilitate, document and coordinate within projects.
? Liaise with Product Management for commercial input, delivery dates and financials
? Liaise with other development managers for coordinated product releases.
? Manage timescales and priorities through all Engineering Service departments
? Manage risk on all assignments and report risk analysis to the company
? Act as CAMS champion for program management process improvement
? Organize, attend and contribute to Project Progress Meetings.
? Balance and prioritise resources between programs in association with the Group Leader and Technical Project Leaders. Liaise with these members of staff in decision-making regarding recruitment of new staff.
? Provide input to Staff Meetings and Team Briefings.
? Supervision and development of other employees as required. Act as a mentor to more junior employees.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:

Recent background in a software development role; Visual C++ to an expert level highly advantageous.
Educated to a minimum of first degree level, 2.1 or higher, in Computer Science or Electronic Engineering
Background in broadcasting, telecommunications or similar engineering industries
At least 5 years experience working as a project leader in a software development team
Experience of taking software products into commercial customer sale and operation
Ability to work well under pressure in a rapidly changing environment
A proven track record of project delivery to time and quality
Excellent motivational and interpersonal skills
Ability to provide facilitation and support to the design authority and team
Expert knowledge of software life cycles


Experience in the management of subcontractors is an advantage
This role may suit a technical project leader who is looking for a more senior exposure and is ready to make the move away from a hands-on role to one focused on planning, estimating and delivery.
