Free CV checker alternatives in the UK
Search for a CV checker and you’ll find the same handful of tools. Zety, Jobscan, Resume.io, TopCV, LiveCareer — the usual suspects. This page isn’t a scorecard of them, because their pricing and features shift often enough that any comparison table would be out of date before you finished reading it. It’s a list of things worth checking in any of them, including ours.
Does it understand a UK CV?
Most of the well-known tools were built around the American résumé. And the differences aren’t cosmetic. UK CVs run to two pages rather than one, carry no photograph, no date of birth, no marital status — and use British spelling that some American tools will cheerfully flag as errors. A checker that marks you down for a two-page CV is applying the wrong rulebook entirely.
Is the diagnosis free, or only the score?
This is where most free tiers quietly stop. You get a number and a vague list of problem areas, and the actual fixes sit behind a subscription. Check what you get before you hand over your email address — specifically whether the thing you came for, the rewrite, is included or not.
Does it tell you what an ATS will actually do to the file?
A score out of 100 isn’t the same as knowing your contact details are sitting in a header the parser might skip. The useful output names the specific thing likely to break. Not a grade for a vague category — the actual problem.
Does it only look at the CV?
A CV checker can only tell you whether the CV is decent. It can’t tell you whether you should have applied to that job in the first place. For most people who aren’t getting interviews, that’s the bigger question.
What ours does — plainly
The CV checker is free. Three checks a day, no account needed. It grades six sections out of 100, returns a letter grade, names the fixes in priority order with an example rewrite for each, and flags any ATS issues with the file itself. It’s built for UK CVs.
What it doesn’t do: it won’t write you a new CV from scratch, there are no design templates, and it won’t produce a PDF for you. If you want a polished template, the tools above do that. We don’t.
But here’s the thing — the part no CV checker touches is the job side. Our job grader scores a vacancy A–F across ten weighted dimensions before you spend your evening applying. And the application autopsy looks at your last three to fifteen rejections together to find the pattern. That’s what we actually built. The CV checker is just the front door to it.
